YOGA with Ann Lapo

The goal of yoga is a state of equilibrium and peace. Asanas (poses) are one of the major "tools" of yoga. Their benefits range from the physical level to the spiritual. "Asana" is the positioning of the body in various postures, with the total involvement of the mind and body, in order to establish communication between our external and internal selves.  In a complete yoga practice, asanas are accompanied by breathing awareness exercises (pranayama), relaxation, and meditation--connecting the body, mind, and spirit.

Thus, yoga is a spiritual science and art and seeks to express the artist's abilities to the fullest possible extent. To express their art, the only instruments a yogi needs are body and mind. Today's practitioner will encounter many yoga traditions, all emphasizing different aspects of this 5000 year-old tradition, but all based on the same philosophy.

* Based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, Swami Rama, and Roger Eischens. Ann Lapo teaches in the greater Lansing area.
